The Federal Skilled Worker (Express Entry) program is one of the most sought-after immigration pathways to Canada. It allows skilled workers to become permanent residents based on factors like education, work experience, language proficiency in English or French, and other criteria that contribute to their potential success in Canada.

Since January 1, 2015, creating an Express Entry profile has been the first step for skilled workers seeking permanent residency under the following programs:

To be eligible, you must meet all these minimum criteria. If you do, the IRCC will evaluate your eligibility using selection factor points and assign you an overall score out of 100. If you score 67 points or more, you may qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

By meeting these requirements, you can increase your chances of qualifying for permanent residency through the Federal Skilled Worker (Express Entry) program.

1. Skilled Work Experience

Skilled work experience is defined as employment in one of the following National Occupational Classification (NOC) job groups:

  • Managerial roles (NOC skill type 0)

  • Professional jobs (NOC skill level A)

  • Technical and skilled trades jobs (NOC skill level B)

02 . Language Proficiency

You must take an approved language test in either English or French that covers reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

  • A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 in all four language abilities is required.

  • The test results must be valid (within two years) on the day you apply for permanent residency.

03. Education

  • If you studied in Canada, you must hold a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian secondary or post-secondary institution.

  • If you completed your education abroad, you must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a designated organization to confirm that your foreign qualifications are equivalent to a Canadian secondary or post-secondary credential.
